Top 5 Things to Watch

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of March 23. Watch for coverage of these and other topics through the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.
Note that all report release times are Central Daylight Savings Time unless otherwise noted.
1. Tariff avoidance conversations: International and farm groups continue to hope to avoid the widespread tariffs called for by the Trump Administration. Expect conversations to pick up through this week as the deadline looms.
2. Calling all innovative farmers: We're once again taking nominations for Progressive Farmer magazine's America's Best Young Farmers and Ranchers. Each year we celebrate a collection of the entrepreneurs, innovators and community supporters that represent the best of American agriculture. To nominate someone, or yourself, go here: https://dtn.link/…. To see a video about this year's winners, how they were selected, what happens when they are named our ABYFR best for the year, check out https://www.dtnpf.com/…. To see videos of this year's winners on their farms, go to https://www.dtnpf.com/… and see the following: "Worth the Retail Price," "Leaving the Comfort Zone," "Risk is Not Taking Risk," "Failure Isn't Fatal," and "New Love for the Farm."
3. First week of astronomical spring: Several smaller systems will move through the week, though showers will be limited. Drought conditions continue to grow across the Plains, especially across Southern Plains areas, due to limited moisture and strong drying winds this past week. The severe storms that spawned tornadoes and damaging winds have been light on rainfall, abnormal for early spring storms. The Midwest could see additional rain or snow showers during the week, while the Delta could see heavy thunderstorms and potential for severe weather, keeping fields wet there.
4. Prospective plantings: An extra-early note to remind that the USDA Grain Stocks and Prospective Plantings report will be March 31 at 11 a.m. There will be a lot of interest in where corn stocks are, given relatively bullish demand. We'll also be watching what USDA surveys have indicated about corn plantings, which the trade expects to be above 94 million acres. Register for follow-up webinar at https://www.dtn.com/…
