Top 5 Things to Watch

By DTN Staff

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Feb. 15. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Standard Time unless otherwise noted.

1. Markets closed Monday: U.S. commodity and equities markets are closed Monday for the Presidents Day holiday; markets are closed in Canada for Family Day. DTN's newsroom will also be closed. DTN markets coverage will resume with our Quick Take Monday evening, followed with our Early Word and Before the Bell columns Tuesday morning. However, all USDA Mandatory Cattle and Hog reports will be released as normal Monday. DTN will update that livestock information as we receive it.

2. USDA Outlook sessions: This week features USDA's annual Agricultural Outlook Forum in Washington, D.C., Thursday and Friday. The agency's economists will lay out forecasts for the 2026 crop and market year. Sessions of usual high interest, the cotton, grains and oilseeds and livestock outlooks, occur Friday, with details of those outlooks dropping early that morning. USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins addresses the attendees at 11 a.m.

3. Farm Bill responses: Republicans dropped a late-Friday news gift in terms of a new draft of a farm bill. We'll be looking for additional responses to it. You can read our latest on the legislation here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….

4. Precip chance through the week: A weather system moving from Texas across the Delta during the weekend brings increased rain chances and could develop into heavy rains and strong-to-severe thunderstorms. The next system will move into the West early in the week and will eventually reach the Northern Plains and Midwest mid-week. A separate storm system moves through the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest late week, providing a wintry mix of rain, snow and freezing rain.

5. Reports due this week: Monday is Presidents Day holiday (see item No. 1). Tuesday at 10 a.m. we'll have latest Grain Inspections numbers, then at 2 p.m. the Chickens and Eggs report. Wednesday will be busy: at 7:30 a.m., Housing Starts for November (delayed), Building Permits, Durable Goods Orders, Advanced U.S. Trade Balance Dec, Retail Inventories and Wholesale inventories and Imports and Exports data. At 1 p.m., minutes of the FOMC (Fed) February meeting. At 2 p.m., Broiler Hatchery numbers. Thursday at 7:30 a.m. sees Initial Jobless Claims and U.S. Trade Deficit. At 9 a.m. we'll see Pending Home Sales numbers. At 10 a.m. EIA's ethanol production and inventory will be released, then the Weekly Economic Index at 10:30 a.m. At 2 p.m., Livestock slaughter and livestock weekly. Friday reports start at 7:30 a.m. with Grain Export Sales, Fourth quarter GDP, Personal Income, PCE Index and Core PCE Index data. At 8:45 a.m. we'll see the S&P Flash Services P.M.I and Flash Manufacturing numbers. Then at 9 a.m. New Home Sales for November and December and Consumer Sentiment. At 2 p.m., Cattle-On-Feed and Poultry Slaughter. At 3:30 p.m. is CFTC's Commitment of Traders report.
