USDA's Top 10 Cash Rent States in 2025

LINCOLN, Neb. (DTN) -- USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service on Friday released details on farm cash rents in all 50 states for 2025, showing that California surpassed Arizona with the highest average per-acre values.

Nationally, the average cash rent for cropland was $161 per acre, up $1 from 2024. The average irrigated crop land cash rent came in at $244 per acre, down $1 an acre from 2024.

Here are the top 10 states by highest average cropland cash rents:

1. California, $346 an acre.

2. Arizona, $334 an acre.

3. Hawaii, $295 an acre.

4. Iowa, $274 an acre.

5. Illinois, $264 an acre.

6. Washington, $259 an acre.

7. Indiana, $227 an acre.

8. Nebraska, $226 an acre.

9. Idaho, $211 an acre.

10. Minnesota, $200 an acre.

Here are the top 10 states by highest average cash rents for irrigated cropland:

1. California, $483 an acre.

2. Hawaii, $443 an acre.

3. Washington, $438 an acre.

4. Arizona, $334 an acre.

5. Massachusetts, $298 an acre.

6. Nebraska, $286 an acre.

7. Idaho, $284 an acre.

8. Indiana, $274 an acre.

9. Illinois, $272 an acre.

10. Florida, $268 an acre.
