Wheat...West coast cash wheat prices recovered from an early-week swoon
across the futures complex, closing right in-line with last week's price
levels. White wheat bids nudged a nickel higher to hit the $6 mark for
the first time in nearly two months. Confirmation of further buying from
China was supportive.
Weekly Sales...USDA showed export demand for U.S. wheat slipped below
the prior two week's pace but slightly above the four-week average at 13.3
million bushels. This puts year-to-date commitments at 802 million bushels,
which is 17% ahead of a year ago and 19% above the five-year average pace.
Hard red spring was the top seller with 6.8 million bushels and with 205
million in commitments, setting 7% below a year ago but 1% above average.
Hard red winter booked 2.3 million bushels, putting sales at 287 million,
which is 77% ahead of a year ago and 49% above average. White wheat sold
1.6 million bushels and with 184 million in commitments, sets 1% behind a
year ago but 16% above average.
Top Buyers...The Philippines and Taiwan each bought 3.3 million bushels,
Mexico bought 2.5 million, China bought 2.4 million and Italy booked 2.2
million bushels of durum.
